"Hmm. So let’s get this straight. If an animal rights activist makes sweeping comments about how he feels violence is justified against researchers, then lawmakers and industry groups go through the roof, he has his home raided, and cops are on red alert. If a born-again Christian makes sweeping comments–and targeted death threats–about how he feels violence is justified against researchers, then lawmakers and industry groups don’t have much to say, and cops aren’t even sure it’s “necessarily a crime.”"

Welcome Back Us!
So... yeah, we're back from our trip down to
LA for the AR2007 Conference. Glad we went down. Heard some good speakers, but more importantly got to meet some inspirational people doing great work like
Will Potter,
Patrice Jones,
Lauren Ornelas, and a pile of others. The conference did it's job and got us all pumped up.
So now it's time to all step things up around here. Gotta get active. Gotta organize. All this wasted potential. Let's all do some brainstorming or something. It's gotta be about more than potlucks and buying donuts and jerky, right? Any ideas? Shoot 'em our way. Would anybody be into helping with a grassroots AR Conference in the NW? Hmmm?

Abandoned mice!
Some idiot kids just threw a bag of domestic mice over the fence in the playground next to the store. Now we have like 8 mice and don't know what to do. Does anyone out there know of a shelter that takes in mice? Please help!

Here's a really easy thing you can do to help. Donate a couple of hours of your time and make this big task easier.
"We're nearing the end! With a small handful of dedicated volunteers, we have completed nearly three-quarters of the enormous task of scanning 113,000 pages of monkey records from the Oregon National Primate Research Center into PDFs for review by primate experts. We have a good scanner that can do up to 50 pages at a time, so it's not difficult, just time consuming.
Please sign up to volunteer -- an hour, a few hours, a day -- and help us finish this part of the project so we can review these records and see what is happening behind OHSU's locked lab doors. Bring your favorite music and some headphones and the time will fly by.
Please contact Connie or Matt at (503) 249-9996 or connie@idausa.org or matt@idausa.org if you can help."

Perhaps this story can help the AR community feel less guilty about putting this "venerable institution" out of business.

women of questionable integrity at after-hours booze parties in the salon."

So, yeah, our freezer broke again. Getting a new one in a few days, but until then things are crappy. Also, we're getting 2 shipments of frozen stuff before the new freezer arrives. We need to make room. So... want 15% of stuff in the freezer? Come in today only and take stuff off our hands. Don't see what you want? Just ask, we may have some in our storage room. Thanks.
PS. If you don't remind us about the discount we might forget, so please remind.

A West Coast
Shut Them Down tour of demos against
HLS is going to be happening July 24 - Aug 2! All of you on or near the west coast, please try to make it out for one or several of these dates! Another dog needs a home!

Hi everybody. Thought we'd try again and see if anyone would want to adopt or foster a lovely dog.
A couple of customers from California on a road trip stopped by yesterday. They found her running along a lone highway in California wearing a shock collar. No doubt, the poor girl was either dropped somewhere or ran off from a bad situation. But they can't keep her, and they're only going to be in town a couple days, continuing their 2 month long road trip.
She's such a nice nice dog. We're guessing she's still a puppy, only 1 years old. They said she's been around other dogs since finding her, and all she wants to do is play. She's one of those really awesome, playful, loving dogs that would fit into any good home perfectly.
Please get in touch!

Never asked permission. Totally ripped us off. The only difference is it's on a black t-shirt.
You might know this guy as someone doing good work, and yeah he is, but we know a lot about him business-wise, and his reputation is not good. He's known for ripping off so many groups' designs: Herbivore, PETA, Microcosm, Food Not Bombs. Yeah, it's for AR, but, he does make personal money off his stealing, too.
It's tiring to see other people's hard work being taken without permission. He has to know one person creative enough to come up with their own designs, right?
So crappy.

In response to the June 8th incident where 2 teenage girls were kicked off the #12 Trimet bus and called “sickos” for kissing, the queer community of Portland is uniting in protest. We are protesting the driver’s homophobic actions, and we are protesting Trimet’s mild response to the situation. We are calling for a formal apology from the driver to the entire queer community, and we are calling for additional sensitivity and diversity training for Trimet staff.
