"Happy Holidays,
Dog racing in Oregon is over. Magna Entertainment announced it is not renewing their contract with Multnomah Kennel Club, thus ending 70 years of dogs racing for their very lives in Oregon.
You can see the article in the Oregonian at http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/news/1103893240271240.xml Oregon Defenders of Greyhounds was the only group in Oregon working on the abolition of dog racing starting in 1997 and have worked closely with Grey2KUSA in Boston. Our strategy has been simple: educate the public and stop all the dog track's bills from passing in the Oregon Legislature. We have succeeded in both. But we couldn't have done it without your help! All we have to do now is pass a bill to ban dog racing altogether, which we will start working on in January. We will let you know when our legislation is filed so you can contact your senators.
We did it!!
Thanks for helping the hounds!
Yours,
Connie Theil
Director
Oregon Defenders of Greyhounds"

"Farm Animals Need Homes:
The animals featured are in urgent need of safe, permanent adoptive homes. The Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary is currently full and / or we do not have housing for the animals listed:
Dallas, OR:
There are about 3 dozen turkeys who need new homes; primarily single toms and a few bachelor pairs of toms. If there are people who want 'families' of turkeys I will put hens with the toms. ÊMost of the toms need to go into situations where there aren't other toms because they are aggressive with other males they didn't grow up with. So it isn't a placement for a flock of 40.
Their ages range from less than a year to about 3 years; one of the pairs of toms is 4. There are White Holland type, Black, Mottled Black, tricolor, WIld and Standard Bronze birds. Most of them, except for some of the WIlds and Blacks, have been handled regularly and are suitable as pets.

Hooray for the internet!
Man, this online store thing might be just the thing we needed to help with our lack of income. We've had 8 orders already by noon today. It's making Chad very happy to have his hard work pay off so far. Keep it coming people. We love you.
Have you seen the trailer for the Willy Wonka remake? Looks like it actually could be good.

Sometimes.
Sometimes the store really puts me in a good mood. I enjoy the idea of being able to use potty mouth with our patrons. I like that they use it with us. I like when people hang out and talk and pretend we're a bar or something.

You got our back.
Somebody emailed us this and it made us happy. Thanks. We love our customers.
"Re: the "Most People Are Idiots" posting and the idiots who took exception to it - I have noticed during my many years on Planet Earth (which is NOT flat if I may point out)that stupid people get quite upset when you point out to them that they are indeed STUPID. Witness the whole "Red States vs. Blue States" thing around the election - if that wasn't a case of backwards, Bible toting, grade-school drop-outs feeling inferior to the obviously better educated and well-read urbanites, I don't know what was. Sadly, most people ARE stupid, and that's why we have a backward, Bible-toting, grade-school drop-out as President again!
Don't be afraid to tell it like it is Food Fight-ers. That's why the rest of us love you!"

The best cookies ever.
Hi again. We got some new cookies in by the people who make the tamales we carry, Comisa's Sweet Tamale Catering, and let me tell you, they rule. We have Pear Chocolate Chip and Coconut Oatmeal. Man, are they nice and soft and chewy and so so tasty. You gotta try one, you won't be disappointed.

We lost our cherry
We just processed our first online order from somebody we didn't know. They ordered a bag of marshmallows and a "Cranky Vegan Asshole" button. Quite satisfying.
Also satisfying is the Los Crudos discography currently playing in the store. Nice and loud, no customers to annoy.

Consider your faith insulted.
Looks like we may have made some people angry by the "Most People Are Idiots" posting. Well, I guess that will happen from time to time. We feel it is important to have our personalities tied in to our business. If not, we'd be no different than any other faceless corporation where the customer is always right. You must realize the customer is NOT always right. And sometimes they are just plain silly. If you get offended by anything on this site, our politics, our potty mouth, etc, then please look away from the computer and feel free to shop elsewhere. xoxo The Management

We The People
It's nice when you wake up at the break of dawn for a delivery, and you step in feces in the back of the store, and then you also find more feces in the front of the store.

Veganopolis!!!
Just got this note from George and David, from Veganopolis (formerly Chef-to-Go):
"Greetings everyone,
We have really missed seeing and talking with all of you at our little food cart. It was a bit of a shock at first and we still feel lonely. We hope to see you again when we open the doors of Veganopolis the first week of January ,2005. We will send on an exact date closer to completion of construction and also news of a pre-opening bash.
Veganopolis, 412 S.W. 4th, will be a large, relaxing and fun space for all to enjoy. Cafeteria style with our fresh soups, gourmet salads, expanded sandwich menu and hot items for breakfast and lunch. Hours will be 8am-6pm-Mon-Sat. Yes! Tofu Scramble specials and roasted potatoes, breakfast sandwiches will be available along with espresso drinks and juices. The Vegan Reuben Sandwich will be on the daily menu for those who have asked. I have been refining a raw cashew “cheese” recipe I think you Feta lovers might approve of. Also a raw almond cheese. The Seitan Caesar will be available as a salad with or without grilled veggie “chicken”, David’s Lemon- Herb croutons and a pine nut based “Rawmesan” that we have been refining also. The salad is a meal in itself. Lot’s of new items will appear and as always we welcome your comments and suggestions. Lot’s of add ons and options will be available to design your own sandwich. Many new items and a much larger kitchen for which to prepare them in. Whoopee!
We experienced a few unnecessary delays but White Dog Restoration, Inc. jumped in and has done a great job on the build out and saving some time here and there. We hope to offer free wireless internet so bring your laptop and relax in our
2 level space, listen to Schicky Gnarowitz and enjoy yourself most of all.
David and I thank you for your support and look forward to continuing the fun at Veganopolis!
Have a great Holiday Season!

from PETA.org
"On Wednesday, December 1, 2004, Forever 21 confirmed in a letter to PETA that the company will remove all fur from its stores and never sell it again. The decision was made after PETA called for a boycott of the clothing chain.
Forever 21 joins other leading retailers such as Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, and countless others who refuse to sell fur."
