Damn, I thought I was really suffering by owning only a few outfits of clothing, not taking vacations, living in a cheap ass apartment furnished with free furniture, denying myself luxuries and some necessities so that I can put every penny that I can pull out of my nose into rescuing animals only to find out that now I will not be able to go to the 'world's first vegan strip bar'. Man, Mr. vegan, pimp diablo really makes me reconsider how I should spend my poverty level

I'm a feminist and a woman and I don't see any reason why vegan + strip club doesn't compute. Women are capable of making their own decisions about whether or not they want to strip. Stripping at least generally involves CONSENT. Animal products do not involve consent.

Yeah, stripping is in many ways a product of the patriarchal culture that we would all like to see dismantled. But not always. And in terms of our economic system many of us are selling our souls, our time, our health, our bodies in one way or another. Stripping is a way to maximize the amount of money you can make in a given time in order to allow you to use the rest of your time for better things. At least it is for many women.

I think it's bullshit when people assume that all strippers are oppressed or whatever. It makes me wonder if a lot of these people have ever say, talked to a stripper or asked a stripper what her life is like. I have, and I considered stripping myself for a while. Wasn't for me in the end, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily evil or incompatible with veganism or feminism.

He'd rather perpetuate the stereotype that all vegans are hanging around dumpsters (not that there's anything wrong with that), but it doesn't exactly make selling Middle America on veganism any easier, nor does his weird-ass fricking devil portrait.
 

while i don't think that stripping ALWAYS equals oppression, i do think that MANY times it does, especially if there is a hetero male running it. not saying that all hetero males are oppressing women either, just lots of times thats the case. having interacted with the owner, i think its likely he's not putting the needs of the dancers first.

i WOULD however, love to see a vegan dyke strip club. just sayin' :)

word on the street from employees of the pirates tavern was that he was known for being kinda of sexist and inappropriate with the women workers...soo if that's true it's not a surprise that he's starting a sleazy club!

And the whole thing with us 'poor vegans'..pppsshhh.. we just have better businesses and causes to support and not waste our bucks on his gross food.
 

The reason Pirate's Tavern went out of business should be pretty obvious...it was out in the middle of nowhere. A strip club actually kind of makes more sense out on NW St. Helens.

We stopped by there once on our bikes after a ride at Sauvie's Island and I liked the food okay, would have liked the opportunity to try more. Oddly, the place was overrun with a children's pirate themed birthday party at the time.
 

LOL @ everyone bitching about exploiting women. Strip clubs don't exploit the dancers, they exploit the customers, by taking advantage of their biological urges and then leaving them frustrated and broke. Actual prostitutes are a lot more honest. I respek them. Wesside. For my money they give me a lot more satisfaction and only occasionally an infection.

This guy is just plain freakish. The food at that place was crap! The service was deplorable. Hello? Maybe he should have had Gorden Ramsey by for some advice on what shit it really was! Blaming vegans because they were a lousy establishment is W R O N G. Turning into a sleazy strip joint is no surprise either. I think this guy would do anything! Make no mistake though. Many of us tried and tried to like this place and there wasn't one thing decent or professional about it!
 

Damn... as a woman, I find it HIGHLY offensive that people take issue with stripping. I mean, WTF, aren't I capable of making my own decisions? Do I need society as a whole to protect me from my feeble, unable female mind? I wager that the lot of you are more exploited, and bigger "whores" than any of the strippers that work in this town. Save for the few entrepreneurial vegans that follow their own path and live by their own means, the rest are working stiffs just like these women. Who are you to question their judgment and cast your own judgment on their profession or the people who own such establishments.

And as for Johnny "Diablo", who the fuck cares? I don't think he's even marketing to vegans. At least the meat gnawing, crotch-brained men (AND WOMEN) who patronize his establishment, won't be chowing down on buffalo wings and cheese sticks.
