There's most of the ones here (or the next comment) :

Also I missed a vegan hair salon in that post:
The Wandering Hare (another vegan hair salon.) 7327 N Charleston
Portland 503.289.0830 (In St Johns.)

I second the nomination to add

Shelly's Garden Burritos
Pioneer Square
SW Broadway & Yamhill St
Portland, OR 97255
honkinhuge.com

They are all vegetarian and offer a vegan discount if you leave off the cheese and sour cream.

Vita and Paradox are not owned by the same folks anymore. Also, I wish I had known about the non-vegetarian alcohol at Nutshell, and more so the foie gras.

thanks for organizing that great list!!
so, i have some crazy news though, about nicolas' restaurant...my friend who waited tables there told me that the soups (lentil specifically), is actually made with chicken broth. not vegan, not vegetarian. i called and asked them straight up, and they said it wasn't true, but my friend swears that they use meat-broth and just say its veggie. so i don't eat it just to be sure.

There is a coffee shop on Holgate and SE 28th called The Funky Door. They have vegan breakfast and lunch. They also sell sweetpea. I think it is an all vegetarian establish with good vegan options.

That's interesting about the Funky Door, I know someone who works there and had no idea..I'll definitely check it out soonish.

Just walked over to funky door. It is not an all vegetarian restaurant.

i am really bummed about nutshell, i thought it was so cool that there were more vegan restaurants in portland, but it turns out that they are just capatalist assholes who are just jumping in on a trend to make money...
i can't believe that anyone serves foie gras. that is so disgusting...
i will never eat THERE again... (too bad the food is so good)

Backspace is all vegetarian and actually has some damn fine late night eats.

Shouldn't they be listed under vegetarian?

backspace has an all vegetarian kitchen but they also offer nonvegetarian Hot Lips Pizza,

For nutshell, I think it is a good thing to encourage capitalist assholes to open vegan businesses. More vegan businesses = less room for nonvegetarian ones. The wine thing is a bit annoying though, you'd think the head chef (who is vegan) would have got that right.

If Nutshell actually has foie gras, then no one who cares about animals should be suppporting them, period. They should be getting protested, not embraced because of some veg options. People worked really hard in Portland - gave up their friday and saturday nights for weeks on end to protest - to reduce the number of restaurants that served foie gras. Don't help another one be successful. If they serve foie gras, don't go there, and let them know why. Not acceptable.

Nutshell DOES NOT have foie gras. The owners are just investor turds who don't care about veganism or animal issues and apparently their OTHER restaurants serve foie gras.

vs sells leather. stop, molly! i love the fuck out of the place.

Well, as someone who is relatively new to town, I am loving all the vegan options abound.

About Nutshell, it seems to me, that all vegan businesses should be enthusiastically welcomed and patronized. Even when they are owned by "health" vegans who don't really get the whole ethical issue of veganism. This is our chance as a vegan community to educate this business and let them know that there is a large market for vegan cuisine here but we could do without the isinglass in the wine. Maybe even convince them to get the Foie Gras out of their other establishments. It's not ideal, especially considering all the other vegan businesses, but I think less is accomplished by not supporting them. You know?

I have noticed that there seems to be a little bit of taking for granted the number of vegan establishments here in Portland. I suppose that is totally understandable, given the vast amount of options. However, I came from a place that had very limited options so I am just grateful for all these vegan places. It's heavenly. So, I would just urge people to continue to support all the local places that cater to us.... even if they are only doing so to line their pockets with some extra cash.

On a separate but similar note.... anyone know the deal with Pirates Tavern. I just have hear a lot of shit talking about that place and that a lot of vegan folks don't go? Just curious (like, is there secretly beef in the burgers or something? eek!!). Anyway, just curious! I love Portland!

I think the Nutshell bashing is just another example of the ridculous in-fighting that will keep the AR and vegan movement from ever succeeding. Seriously, the chef is amazing and makes incredible food. He isn't a millionaire, so he is at the mercy of his investors to be able to have a restaurant. Anything that's worth doing or having is good even if you can't have it 100% "perfect" from the get go. And if you're so disgusted by the non-veg alcohol DON'T BUY IT. I mean, there are tons of other places that are veg restaurants that serve meat. I'm just grateful to have so many places where I can go and grab a bite to eat.

Kav, as far as Pirate's Tavern, I think people don't like it because the owner is a perv and there were sexual harassment issues going on their, allegedly. That and their food is really sub-par and costs way too damn much. $9 for a milkshake, you have to be kidding me.

But you are right, Portland vegans are spoiled to be able to pick and choose and bash places.

Maybe when people grow up and stop being so emo from behind the comfort of their computer screens they'll actually stop complaining and realize what's important. There is an asshole at the top of every "food chain"- business, distributor, CEO, stockholder, and you have to pick your battles. Try picking ones that actually matter and will make a difference.

I think the thing with Nutshell is that lots of people have spent lots of time protesting places that serve foie gras in this town. And to think the money spent at Nutshell could be going directly to those same people who run the restaurants being protested... it's a real thing to think about and not just "ridiculous in-fighting."

It's like talking about whether you should be getting LiteLife products owned by ConAgra when you could be buying Tofurky products which is a vegan company. Ya know?

And to go right from talking about in-fighting to calling the Pirate's Tavern guy a perv...

I liked the Pirates Tavern food a lot, even though I think it was too expensive (at least for me).

In general, because we DO have choices in Portland, I'd prefer to support businesses who also share my philosophy for animals.

Red and Black just closed thanks to their jerk landlord selling the building to even bigger jerks, but they're planning on reopening. They've also talked about going 100% vegan when they reopen. Maybe note that they're closed but don't remove them from the guide?

Thanks for updating the list & all the other great stuff you do.

One more place to add is:
- New Moon Massage Therapy, 503-752-8340, 503-752-8366,
http://www.myspace.com/newmoonmassage

The massage therapist is vegan & so are all the massage supplies!
New Moon has a space in NE near the 42nd Ave. transit center & can also do chair massage for events, at businesses & parties, etc.
