Vegan party eats at co-workers

"But I know that they will serve only vegan foods, no sodas, and food that many in the larger group don't necessarily enjoy, along with lots of alcohol, which is amusing given their health concerns. They will not allow anything other than vegan foods in their home, which is their right.

There is a feeling among the workers that these two are incredibly rude and controlling."

I CAN'T HAVE FUN WITHOUT BLOOD SAUSAGE IN CHEESE SAUCE! SCREW YOUUUUU!!!

I just had to make a comment about how rude it is to assume no one will like the food! You never know until you try it, eh?
XD
What a whiner! "no one will like it, waaah"!

Ooops, didn't sign my post.

ok - so I couldn't help myself. (I know I should have been more mean - but I really wanted the bitch to see how fucking idiotic she sounds. And, I still called her a rude and bitter old biddy!)

I wrote to the column:

Dear Miss Manners,

I was taken aback after reading your ContraCostaTimes.com letters from May 25th regarding the employee who was having issues with her co-workers hosting a party. Your letter response to this food-a-phobiatic co-worker offered no advice at all, except suggesting an office coup by mentioning she and her co-workers should decline the invitation if she had an issue, rather than discussing the actual issue at hand which is the reader herself being rude. I was baffled by your response.

This is not a matter of the “house being too small” which is a simple issue of physics and could have a dramatic impact on a party by forcing invitees uncomfortably out onto the street. This is a lifestyle choice usually backed with a strong belief, which will most likely have little to no impact on the party itself, except possibly stimulating conversation. I suggest that perhaps you and your reader missed the fact that a party can still be quite enjoyable even if there isn’t soda-pop and mac ‘n cheese on the menu.

If this reader’s vegetarian co-worker is kind enough to #1, offer to host (provide food, atmosphere, clean-up after everyone) and to also #2, want to share their life with and open their home to their co-workers, why not encourage it? Would your “gentle reader” also be bent out of shape and decline to attend a party from a co-worker of another nationality for fear of baba ganoush? A better choice may have been to encourage your reader to eat before the party if she is concerned. Although, the best choice would have been to have encouraged your reader to gently venture forth into uncharted territory and take a chance – perhaps she will actually enjoy some food that is a little better for her and for the environment.

Even if one hates French food, it doesn’t mean that one can’t enjoy a trip to France. You not only missed the mark on this one, but you and the reader both sound like rude and bitter old biddies whose sole focus at a social events is to hit the buffet and not be social at all.

Sincerely,
Lova Goodparty
