You're not an idiot, but Samhain was the Celtic god of the insane, and Samhain's Day is the antecedent to Halloween.

Glenn Danzig named his second band after Samhain. They used to appear on stage drenched in fake blood. Never saw them but I did see The (original) Misfits. Awesome show.
