at a time like this, it's especially good to see that peaceful protest and free speech can still make a difference.

fur-free friday was my first pdx protest (i feel awkward at those things), but now i don't want it to be my last.
 

59% of respondants to their poll associated with that article said they should "Prosecute protestors for terrorism". Not that, obviously, these respondants are a representative sample of the population; nor is it a remotely scientific poll, but it disappoints me that *any* American would agree with that statement!
 

Anyone (this means you, ACLU) who thinks AETA will not be used to attack unpopular speech need only look at Craig Schumacher's wish:

"He wants the new "Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act," signed by President Bush on Monday, enforced against the picketers."

And 59% of our fine KGW-watching fellow-citizens agree. The Counterforce is not going to take this lying down.
 

It is really great that they're "moving" but if they really are moving (not just shutting theire doors altogether) is that really a victory? Not trying to be a party-pooper but if they'll just be selling fur somewhere else, they'll still be selling fur.
 

While it's not as awesome as if they were closing down, it is a sign that the protests worked and cost them a ton of money. They are moving out of the best location around, an area they'd been able to do business in for 112 years. Now they're "liquidating stock" and having to find another place that will rent to them knowing the shit-storm that would follow them. So, yeah, it's still a victory to me.
