Remember her?

"Rep. Katherine Harris, a Florida Republican who is seeking a U.S. Senate seat, said this week that God did not intend for the United States to be a 'nation of secular laws' and that a failure to elect Christians to political office will allow lawmaking bodies to 'legislate sin.'"

Well, I certainly count on my Christian Leaders to lead me away from sin. Without them I'd be a mass-murdering heathen. Thank God that we have them here to help us non-Christain peons.

I certainly see it as a sign of a weak mind when one needs some sort of mythical, imaginary character to dictate "moral" rules in order to lead an ethical life.

why is someone considered weak minded when they believe in God? wouldn't it be considered easier to not believe in something you can't see? this is not asked to get into a theological debate or argument or whatever, i just get kinda tired of hearing that my beliefs make me stupid. just like you get tired of hearing "christians", like katherine harris and george bush, try to tell you what to do. please don't put me in the same category as them, put me with sufjan stevens and david bazan.

I don't think I can answer that question without getting into that theological debate. Either way, I suppose I should say that I have met several intelligent Christians... but they've been few and far between. But I still can't help but think that they are misguided.

Children believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, monsters under the bed and purple dinosaurs that sing and dance. In the REAL world, these mythical creatures do not exist. Are you trying to tell me that gullable children who gave not yet developed the mental facilities to employ such conceptual principles as critical thinking are somehow more intelligent that people who do not believe in such fairytale creatures?

Have you even spent five minutes thinking this out?

The fact is, that the DEFAULT state of the human mind is gullibility. This is an evolutionary vestige that has allowed the human species to be the informational sponges that we are. Although we're developed this ability to absorb information, we have not (as a species) been able to develop the ability to accurately process that information - to sort out the correct from the incorrect. TConsider this - a child will believe nearly EVERYTHING that a parent tells it. Discluding cases of normal adolescent rebellion and breakthrough cases of self-realization, this path generally continues through adulthood. As they age, most people shed the irrational beliefs of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Why? Peer pressure. Children soon realize that older children have jettisoned these beliefs and a younger child will be ridiculed by said older children if he holds on to these beliefs. He will then deny these beliefs just as strongly as he once defended them. In some cases, these actions are later bolstered by the principles of critical thinking and a well rounded understanding of the concept of plausibility.

Now consider "God". Again, if you poll them, most people will state that they believe in God. Why? Again, the answer is peer pressure. There is no logical basis to believe in god, but people soon realize that the majority of the people around them DO believe in god, so he MUST exist. 50 million Elvis fans can't be wrong, right?

People who profess a disbelief in god are often shunned. Why? Again, the answer is peer pressure. Consider this for a moment...Can you imagine an atheist being elected a president? Of course you can't. It's virtually implausible. And why? In the entire recorded history of mankind, not one scrap of evidence has been shown to establish the existence of god, and yet, people still believe. Why do they believe? BECAUSE "EVERYONE ELSE" DOES.

People once believed the earth was flat. People once believed that the sun was ferried across the sky in a blazing chariot. People once believed that dancing continuously would cure them of the black death. People once believe that the earth was the center of the universe. Why have these beliefs been discarded? They have been trumped by science and critical thinking. Of course, the belief in God is a tougher nut to crack. The existence of God cannot be "disproved", just as you cannot disprove the fact that I have a six foot invisible rabbit friend named 'Harvey' who follows me everywhere I go.

In the end, I suppose that it is your right to believe in Santa Claus, God, or invisible rabbits, but please, do not try to tell me that you are somehow more intelligent for doing so.

This crazy bitch graduated from my alma mater, a liberal, feminist women's college in Atlanta. I hear nobody liked her then, either.

And she's sporting an ugly, horsey-like smirk in her yearbook photo.

Trite, I know. But that coupled with the fact she'll fail miserably in the elections gives me an iota of solace.

Anyone know where I can email this bitch and tell her that Jesus asked me to tell her to step down and go work in a homeless shelter if she wants to do some good?
